Winston Dookeran

Bio

Mr. Winston Dookeran was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago in July, 1997.  Immediately preceding this, he was Senior Economist at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).  He currently serves on the Board of the Leadership Council for the Inter-American Summitry, under the auspices of the North South Center, University of Miami, the University of California and the Institute for International Economics.  He is a member of the Board of Contributing Editors of the Institute of the Americas, Americas Insights. More recently, he was appointed Chairman of the Investment Negotiating Committee of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

Mr. Dookeran was a Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs where he edited "Choices and Change: Reflections on the Caribbean" published by Johns Hopkins Press for the Inter-American Development Bank.  More recently, he was contributing editor to the publication "The Caribbean Quest: Directions for Structural Reforms in a Global Economy" published by the Institute of Latin American Studies, Stockholm University.  For many years, he was a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of West Indies.

He is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, London.  In 1991, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
