Mike Mecham

Bio

Mike Mecham is a British Government official on secondment for to Chatham House to build a new Latin America program. The initial project, which is currently running, involves a detailed assessment of Mercosur’s prospects, which includes a series of workshops and papers presented by experts on a range of subjects, including relations with the EU. While at Chatham House, Mr. Mecham has been a broadcaster on South American political and economic affairs as well as writing on relations between Latin America and the European Union.

During his period in British Government Mr Mecham has been Director of UK Trade Development with South America and Eastern Europe. Earlier he had responsibility for commodity policy in which he was a member of an EU negotiating delegation. Finally, he was a Principal Lecturer in politics and government at the British Government’s senior staff college

  • B.Sc. in Sociology from the University of London.
  • Research in social policy at the London School of Economics
  • Currently conducting research on international law and the Americas (including development and human rights) with the University of East London (UK).
