Marcelo Abreu

Bio

Marcelo de Paiva Abreu was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1944. He is a Cambridge University Ph.D. in Economics. Currently Mr. Abreu is Special Expert in Integration and Trade at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C. He is on leave until the end of 2004 from the Department of Economics, Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, where he has been teaching since 1984. He was the Department’s chair from 1990 to 1997, and holds a National Scientific and Technological Research Scholarship, grade I-A. Since 1995 he writes regularly for O Estado de São Paulo, a major Brazilian newspaper.
