William A. Dymond
Bio
William A.
Dymond has extensive trade negotiation and policy experience. Formerly the
Director-General of the Policy Planning Secretariat of the Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade, he also served as Senior Advisor, Trade
Negotiations Office for the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement; Chief Negotiator for
Canada for the OECD Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI); and Chief Air
Negotiator for Canada. His overseas assignments include Ambassador of Canada to
Brazil; Deputy Head and Minister Counselor, Permanent Mission of Canada to the
European Communities, Brussels; Minister Counselor (Commercial), Embassy of
Canada to the United States, Washington and First Secretary, Permanent Mission
of Canada to the United Nations, Geneva.
As Executive Director of the Centre for Trade Policy and Law, Mr. Dymond directs
a professional staff of 12 engaged in trade policy capacity building, research,
outreach and publication. Since assuming direction of the Centre in September
2000, Mr. Dymond has participated in trade policy capacity programs for the
World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the UNCTAD and the APEC and
delivered CPTL programs in Bangladesh, China, Thailand and Central America.
